Accelerated options
If you have strong research skills or an outstanding academic record, you may be able to fast-track your graduate studies by opting for an integrated, fast-track, or direct-entry graduate program.
Consult the Passez à la vitesse supérieure guide (in French only)(PDF, 672 KB) for more information on the various accelerated options available at Université Laval.
Integrated master’s programs
The integrated master’s degree option allows you to start your master’s level coursework during your undergraduate studies. Graduate courses completed successfully will be credited toward your bachelor’s degree and credited a second time at the master’s level if you pursue graduate studies.
Qualification criteria
- Maintain a minimum program average
- Submit an application for authorization to register for the integrated master’s option by the required deadline
- Have completed 60 credits of your bachelor’s program before registering for graduate courses
Admission requirements and terms and conditions for the integrated master’s option can be found in the official program descriptions.
Integrated transition to doctorate
The integrated doctoral degree option allows you to start your doctoral coursework during your master’s studies (doctoral exam excluded). Doctoral courses completed successfully will be credited toward your master’s degree and credited a second time if you pursue a PhD.
Qualification criteria
- Maintain a minimum program average
- Submit an application for authorization to register for the integrated program option by the required deadline
Admission requirements and terms and conditions for the integrated PhD option can be found in the official program descriptions.
Doctoral fast-track program
The doctoral fast-track option allows master’s students to enter a PhD program without having to write a master’s thesis.
Qualification criteria
- Successfully complete all courses in your master’s program
- Present a research proposal with the scope and originality expected of a dissertation
- Demonstrate the skills and aptitudes necessary to pursue doctoral studies
Programs with a fast-track option each set their own criteria for assessing the progress of your research by means of a written and oral transfer exam.
You must pass this transfer exam to be admitted to the doctoral program and to receive your master’s degree upon successful completion of your studies and your doctoral examination.
Direct-entry doctoral programs
The direct-entry option allows students to enter a PhD program after earning a bachelor’s degree without having to do a master’s.
Qualification criteria
- Have an outstanding undergraduate academic record
- Have contributed to scientific, artistic, or professional achievements
- Meet the requirements for successful completion of courses or activities as defined in the program description
Programs offering direct entry each have their own method of assessing applications and may also set specific requirements for pursuing doctoral studies.
Students selected are admitted to the doctorate.
