Authorized software and file formats
The following software is approved by FESP for writing Master's or Doctoral theses :
- Microsoft Word
- LaTeX
- OpenOffice
- LibreOffice
- Other software supporting the OpenDocument Text Format (ODT)
Notice to users of Scientific WorkPlace (MacKichan SoftWare): this software is not recommended by FESP. The document you submit must be compilable with standard LaTeX tools (pdflatex, xelatex).
Multimedia files
All multimedia files must be inserted or submitted in an FESP-authorized format. If the file format is problematic, FESP may require that another format be used.
Authorized formats
- EPS
- JPEG /JPG
- PNG
- TIF / TIFF (Microsoft Word and OpenOffice only)
- JP2 / JPX (Microsoft Word and OpenOffice only)
Very large images must be inserted on standard-size pages (Letter, US, A4, Legal, A3, etc.) and not in a custom size.
In exceptional circumstances, they may be submitted separately from the main document. If this is the case, it is essential to follow file-naming rules.

Sound files must be submitted separately from the main document. A note to the effect that “The sound file has been submitted separately” must be included in the main document at the location where the file is inserted.
All files must have your First name and Last name in the title.
Be sure to add a copyright notice to each sound file.

Video files must be accompanied by a transcript and submitted separately from the main document.
